Picture the scene, 8pm on the Thursday after Valentine's Day, the local Lowe's Foods.
I've stopped in because I'm craving chocolate and head right to the clearance candy isle. Of course there's a store employee standing there restocking and I don't want to make it too obvious that I came to the store with the sole purpose of buying 1/2 priced candy, so I keep on walking down the isle and kill a few minutes looking at other food that actually has some nutritional value.
Finally, the isle is clear and I head back to check out the selection before settling on a box of Russell Stovers assorted chocolates in a lovely red foil wrapping. Then I head to self checkout because once again, I don't want to point out that the sole purpose of my trip is 1/2 priced chocolate since I didn't have a boyfriend to get me whole priced chocolate on Tuesday.
I scan my rewards card and then scan the chocolate, holding my breath to see if the discount does in fact ring up. Big surprise, my stealth mission is ruined because the stupid computer does not register the discount. I reluctantly press the help button and over trots a high school boy who no doubt got his girlfriend full priced chocolates and a stuffed bear holding a heart.
The good news is he seems to know right away what the problem is, meaning that other people have been in buying the sale candy too. He quickly corrects the price while I turn the same shade as the box's foil wrapping and mumble thanks. After quickly shoving the cheap treats into a bag, I make a hasty retreat to my car.
Fortunately back home, Pepper doesn't know what I'm eating and neither do the judges on Dancing with the Stars.

You shouldn't feel bad about buying your own candy. I almost never get candy from my husband, and although he did buy me some chocolate covered pretzels this year, the ones I purchased for myself the day before Valentine's Day were of a much higher quality!
*Note that the kind I bought myself are from the same store where he always buys candy for his mom and grandma!
