Speed Dating with Friends

So last night, Kristi, Samir, Jon, and I went speed dating. We immediately looked cool because we were hanging out together waiting for the event to start and everyone else was awkwardly standing around. I looked even cooler because I had a diet Coke.

As always there were some characters. One was a guy from India who spoke like no English and was hard to hear. I think he said he was there to look for a salsa eating partner. Or maybe he was looking for salsa dancing partner, I'm not quite sure. There was another Indian guy too who laughed at everything I said like it was the funniest thing ever. He really got a kick that we both worked for IBM. Hilarious. We all agreed Samir was the coolest Indian there, no question.

Oddly enough, there were two guys who had graduated from CMU there and one of them was actually at the school the same time I was. We started comparing notes and he mentioned Fringe and then I knew our paths had never crossed. Greeks and student organizations do not mingle at CMU - ever. Naturally, I did not put him down as a yes. Also, he went to CMU, so you know he's a nerd.

Then there was my last date of the evening. It was a very awkward conversation because we had nothing in common, there were definitely long awkward silences. But then the crazy thing was, after the bell rang to signify the end of the date, he kept sitting there, talking to me. I politely said something about having to make my selections and tried to not show him I was giving him a no and he still kept talking to me. I ended up not selecting someone I wanted to because I was so distracted by his talking. I finally excused myself and got up and talked to Samir.

Overall, the experience wasn't that bad. I think Samir and Jon had a good time, although Kristi said she wasn't sure she liked it that much. We were all kind of generous with our "Yeses". For instance, Samir gave one girl a yes because, "she was a bitch, but she was hot."

I already found out I matched with 3 guys, 2 of which are roommates which means only one will probably ask me out.

Oh those Japanese cats!

MSN has a video of cats watching people play ping pong - in Japanese. I'm guessing that the announcers are pretending to be the cats, but since I'm not fluent, I have no idea. Crazy cats!

The trailer for Spiderman 3 showed before Superman last night naturally. The movie looks awesome, even though they're still filming it.

Who knew glasses were such a great disguise

So since I've been having a crappy week, I decided to treat myself to a movie yesterday evening and went to go see Superman Returns. I was a good movie, but I'm still waiting for next week when Pirates of the Caribbean comes out. A couple of things did strike me about the movie though:
1. James Marsden has made a career out of being the third wheel in a romance in comic book movies. He was Jean Grey's boyfriend in X-Men and now Lois Lane's in this movie. He has the act of being in denial down to an art.
2. Kumar from Harold and Kumar go to Whitecastle is a villain in the movie. How can you take him seriously as a villain after seeing him as Kumar? At least he's working. Plus IMDB says that there's going to be a sequel: Harold and Kumar go to Amsterdam.

mySpace Stalking

So I've been on mySpace for a couple of days and hadn't really heard anything from people I didn't know. All of the sudden last night, I got 7 friend requests/messages in 6 hours from random guys. How odd, just all of the sudden after being on a couple of days.

Watch me meet someone from the site after I've already signed up for another speed dating event next week . . .

Yay 'Canes!

The Carolina Hurricanes won the Stanley Cup last night and the last four minutes of the game that I watched was a nailbiter. Cool part is I live less than 5 miles from the rink and did hear some beeping cars on their way home.

79 days till the Steelers' season opener . . . let's hope no one else is charged with anything . . .

Facebook peer pressure

Friday night, Samir said that all of the cool kids are really on Facebook. Turns out that IBM is listed a one of the companies, so I can join. You can see my cool profile, but only if you belong to Facebook suckas.

On a related note, I checked out all of the Somerset Area HS alums and was slightly disturbed. There were a lot of kids Annie and Mary Jo's ages who are skanks. I remember them as little kids, but now they are skanking up their respective colleges. At least they are in college though.

Of course Mary Jo's picture prominently features her in a Lily outfit.

Car repairs

So a couple of weeks ago, I ran into the side of my garage with my right side-view mirror. Now, the mirror keeps popping out of the case. Matt had to hold it in place on the way to and back from lunch Friday, but I had no one to hold it in place when I drove to Walmart to get velcro to fix it. That's where the band-aid came in . . .

Don't mess with Mr. T

Senior year of college, I stumbled upon the Mr. T vs genre of websites and lately find myself referencing them in conversation. I decided to see if they even existed and to my delight, they still do. Even better, Tivo has an episode of The A-Team waiting for me at home.

The Hoff

I was talking to Matt yesterday about Germany's love of David Hasselhoff and went on the web to find some prime examples. Not only does The Hoff have an awesome video where he rocks out with dachshunds in front of a green screen, he also helped end the Cold War. Why is this man a joke in the US?

Lost in Translation

So when I was in Switzerland, I ran across a couple of posters that a first look fine until further examination. There were other examples of English being used across Europe on things and people not knowing what it said. Like the girl with the purse that had dogs and "Horny" all over it and the other girl with "Bastard" on her shirt. Makes me wonder what the clothes I wear with foreign phrases really say . . .

Back in the US of A

My feet are once again firmly planted on US soil and I have the jetlag to prove it. Overall, the trip was fun, but tiring because so much was crammed into so few days. I did get an impression of what cities I liked and am already trying to figure out when I can go to Paris again. I probably need to learn some French first though. Now back to working on my house. The grass in the backyard is taller than Pepper . . .
