More Borat

The new Borat movie is almost a week away and to satisfied my obsession, EW has posted a hilarious interview with him.

Guns don't kill people. Chuck Norris kills people.

Apparently I've been living underneath an Internet rock or something, because I'm just now finding out about "Chuck Norris Facts," a list of facts about how awesome Chuck Norris is, because he is awesome, watching one episode of Walker Texas Ranger tells you that.

Listen to Flavor Flav

Flavor of Love may almost be a thing of the past, but Flav apparently has a new album out and VH1 is being kind enough to stream it. Unfortunately, I'm busy in the usability lab and so can't listen to it, but I'm sure it's profound.

Best email address ever

I was just in a conference call and saw this email address. How lucky is this guy? hfrantz@us.ibm.com pales in comparison . . .

In my father's dreams

Does walking into Harris Teeter give you chills? Ever think to yourself that getting married next to toilet paper is romantic? If so, then you should get married in a grocery store too. Thanks again CNN for such hard-hitting journalism!

Speed dating: Part Quattro

So Jen and I went speed dating again Friday night. We're sitting at the bar waiting for the event to start and Jen is talking to this guy and tells him how I'm a speed dating regular. Funny enough until the speed dating guy comes up to ask our names and recognizes me. Like he knows my name and hands me my name tag without having to ask. My fear of ending up alone has paid his electric bill for the month since I've been there so many times.

Overall, the event was kind of disappointing. Only 10 guys out of 15 showed up, so there were a lot more girls than guys. Jen and I weren't really excited about anyone we talked to, but we did talk to some unique individuals again.

The most unique was a German Computer Science teacher at NC State (Matt totally had him for class). At first you'd think he could be good - he's foreign, smart, and has the potential to make good money. Of course this is not taking into account that he had a unibrow, very high pants, and spoke about 1,000 accented words a minute. I'm pretty sure there were multiple times I answered questions wrong, but I don't think he minded too much since most of his focus was on my boobs.

There was also a lovely gentleman who talked about how he had met some people from IBM that morning as he was waiting in line for the new Nintendo. Unfortunately, he didn't get one and has to wait till the 19th. His willingness to wait in line instead of going to work shows that while he may not have the best work ethic, he would be a valuable asset if I ever needed tickets to a Duke basketball game.

In pure six degrees of separation style, I did meet someone who works with the father of my neighbors growing up. Small world. He was kind of slimy, although this didn't stop me from putting him down as a match (I said the selection wasn't that great) and of course we matched. I don't know if I'll go out with him or not.

At the end of the day, I put down four people and matched with 2 of them which is about par for the course. The one guy has already emailed me. His name is Greg and he is a lawyer which is freaky because my father's name is Greg and he is a lawyer.

The good news is that there is another event in November as the speed dating guy kindly reminded me in his email before he even gave me my matches. My name is Heather and I'm a speed dating addict.

So I just converted over to the new Beta version of Blogger. When I get a chance, I'm going to update my CSS too since I've had the polka dots for a while . . . Check out how I can tag now!

Slutty McSlutterson

So in preparation for the next great speed dating event, I've already started to plan what I'm going to wear and this brings up a boy question for me.

If I wear a top that highlights The Twins, are the speed dating guys going to look at me and think "possible hot girlfriend" or "possible hot hookup"? Faithful male readers (Kevin, Samir), any deep insights?

Shout out to Eleni for protecting my dignity in this pic.

I'm so stoked it's my favorite month, October. Halloween is my favorite holiday and I put out all of my decorations first thing yesterday morning.

Stupidest phone name ever

Matt and I spent 10 minutes yesterday discussing how totally stupid the new "Chocolate" phone from Verizon is. The phone has absolutely nothing to do with chocolate - you can't eat it, it's black not brown, it's a phone people.

Other phone names make more sense - the Rokr plays music, the Razr is thin, the Pebl looks like a pebble. While they may have incredibly misspelled names, those names make sense.

But Chocolate? Seriously LG & Verizon, fire your marketing people.

match.com fun

So I received the first blog worthy email from a guy at match.com, check it out ---

Subject: Pirouettes and pas de deux

I am looking for a date to go see Carmen in two weeks on opening weekend. You seem like the kind of woman who might like to dress up and go see the ballet. If not we seem like we may have many other things we might enjoy together like a glass of wine on my patio or a weekend trip for peace and quiet or an energetic event. I have just moved back to Raleigh and am looking to get reacquainted, or in our case acquainted in the first place. There are so many new places to see like north hills and the Fayetteville street rehab or old favorites like Glenwood south and Franklin street, plus all the nooks and crannies in-between. Last weekend I went to the free show at regency and drank wine while the symphony played and fireworks shot off. We had a blast. Wish you could have been there. Tell me what you think about the 16th though. Ciao

First off, this is clearly a cut and paste email he sends to everyone. There is no mention of anything from my profile.

Second, he sounds like he works for the Raleigh Tourism board.

Third, what straight man goes to the symphony, drinks wine, and has a blast? The wine must have been Franzia and the symphony must have been playing "Star Wars"

Oh, I'd forgotten how fun this online dating thing can be . . .

Birthday craziness

Samir and I celebrated our birthdays Saturday night by pre-partying at his place and then hitting up Franklin St. in Chapel Hill. I curled my hair, smeared on the black eyeliner, and put the twins on display and I was ready to party like a college student.

In about an hour and a half at Samir's, I had several jello shots and a couple red bull and vodkas and I was good to go (oh and I had one real shot too, ouch). It's actually surprising I didn't throw up right then. The ice cream cake must have saved me (thanks Suzanne!).

I have a vague recollection of Kevin driving us to Chapel Hill and drunkenly showing people where Linda's was. I have an even vaguer recollection of being at Linda's, although I do remember Matt getting me water and reading all of the writings on the bathroom wall.

After I started bugging people to move on, we went to The Library and danced for a couple of hours. There we ran into a guy in a red shirt who I believe started hitting on Kristi until he realized she was taken and then moved onto me and/or Matt (there was some debate about his orientation). I gave him my number and had to tell him my name before we left to walk back to the car, only realizing then that no one knew if his name was Jonathan or Donovan. I did find out he was a Panthers' fan though.

At this point, I remember undoing the straps on my shoes and noticing that one of the straps had fallen off, so I went running back up Franklin St with no shoes on to look for the strap. The good news was I found the strap and didn't cut myself. I sure the cops I ran by enjoyed the show.

Eventually I got home at like 3 AM to a very happy Pepper and passed out until 6, at which point I woke up and threw up what remained of the jello shots. I fell asleep for a couple more hours and then ate some food - big mistake. An hour later, I was throwing up again. After that, I resigned myself to bed for the rest of the day. At 6 PM, I could finally down some of Lexington's finest BBQ. However when I took a shower last night, the smell of my hair made me nauseous all over again.

So in summary, I had an adventure and hopefully didn't do too many embarrassing things . Oh and when Jonathan did call last night, he left the worst voicemail message ever. Think gay valley girl. Damn those jello shot goggles.

P.S. I'll post a link to my pictures once I can look at them without getting sick.

Updates

Matt filled me in on what I else did Saturday night

  • I kept telling everyone how much I loved them, especially Matt

  • I kept saying how much I missed Eleni and Mike

  • The Kristies, Matt, and I had a very enthusiastic discussion about gay marriage on the way to Chapel Hill

  • Rum has a lower proof than vodka
  • Samir has shot glasses in his freezer

Applying The Hoff in the workplace

So I've been sitting in meetings for the past day and a half (I didn't get home till 8pm last night, poor Pepper) and absolutely dying.
